THE FIRST TERRITORY LIBERATED

After a night of grim reports and an exhaustive inspection of the rum reserves, General Jakub Marek Brzęczyszczykiewicz-Szczęśniewski — callsign Generał Chrząszcz — returned to the front.

And this time, the General did not direct operations from a comfortable chair. He personally emptied the supply lines, scrubbed the territory, hauled provisions to decontamination and carried suspect packages into quarantine. The medals did not do the lifting.

Frontline field report: three pantry sectors, supply losses and General Chrząszcz leading the cleanup
GENERAL HEADQUARTERS — Day Two field report. Three sectors under inspection.

Sector Alpha — First drawer reclaimed

The first drawer has been emptied and cleaned. Its bare white interior is the first visible territorial gain of the campaign. A final hairdryer-assisted sweep has been scheduled; the sector is not yet declared fully secure.

Sector Bravo — The decontamination station

Glass containers and sealed provisions have been moved to the hot-water washing station. Any package that admits water will be rejected. High Command sees no reason to negotiate with compromised seals.

Sector Charlie — Balcony quarantine

Opened packets, primarily spices, have been isolated on the balcony under observation. No escapees have been confirmed. The quarantine remains precautionary, not a certificate of safety.

Field status

  • First drawer: Cleaned; final sweep pending
  • Glass and sealed foods: Washing and seal inspection
  • Opened spices: Balcony quarantine
  • Old and doubtful supplies: Discarded — including opened cardboard packs of nuts, grains, corn flour and potato flour, and unidentified bags
  • General’s physical workload: Very real. Very much not delegated.

The Moth Kingdom still holds undiscovered positions. But the first drawer is empty, the stores are being sorted, and the rubbish is leaving the battlefield.

A General’s duty is not merely to point at the map. Sometimes it is to carry forty suspicious packets to the bathtub.

Generał Chrząszcz reports that liberation involves considerably more bending, lifting and scrubbing than the recruitment posters suggested.
